For the past six years I’ve posted my predictions at the beginning of each season for how the final Premier League table will look. And, at the same time, I’ve always opened it up to you, the readers, to cast your predictions too. So how did we do?

In mid August last year, I cast my predictions before the summer transfer window closed. Nearly 100 of you posted your predictions in the comments section. Looking through the predictions, what’s interesting is how few people predicted that Queens Park Rangers would be relegated, and how many predicted West Bromwich Albion to go down.

There were several readers who correctly predicted Manchester United to win the title and got two of the three relegated teams guessed correctly, but no one did better than that. Personally, I predicted that Manchester City would beat United to the title, and that Queens Park Rangers, Stoke and West Ham United would go down.

Here’s what I wrote about Manchester City before the season started:

“Manchester City, meanwhile, is going to go from strength to strength. The only obstacle in their path is themselves. As long as Roberto Mancini can keep order within the ranks of City by giving his footballers enough playing time, City will be unstoppable.”

Unfortunately, for my predictions, City let their obstacle (i.e. themselves) work against them. While I correctly predicted Queens Park Rangers being relegated before a ball was kicked in the season, my predictions for West Ham and Stoke going down weren’t correct. I had better hopes for Reading, and I didn’t think Wigan would do worse.
