Blackpool vs Birmingham, Championship Playoff Semi-Final, 1st Leg: Open Thread

Today we have the first leg of the nPower Championship Playoff semi-final between former Premier League sides Blackpool and Birmingham City kicking off at 2:45pm ET/7:45pm BST (available live in the United States on FOXSoccer2Go and FOX Soccer Plus).

Since we had such a good reception for yesterday’s match between Cardiff City and West Ham United, we’ve decided to post an open thread so you, the readers, can add your rants, raves, questions and observations about the match.

If you haven’t had a chance to watch Blackpool or Birmingham since last season in the Premier League, you’ll see many familiar faces on both squads as well as two managers who are quite different but respected in many ways — Ian Holloway and Chris Hughton.

Before, during and after today’s Championship semi-final, post your words of wisdom in the comments section below.

Watching young Ince for Blackpool showed why Liverpool are so poor in keeping good talent and bringing in mediocrity. The lad is twice the player Carroll is and they had him on their books and cost nothing (if I’m not mistaken as he was part of their academy).

Would love to see Blackpool come up again because if anything they will be entertaining both on the field and off (with Halloway’s interviews).

Blackpool have to come back up to the Premier League even if it’s only to hear Ian Holloway’s funny interviews again!

Want either West Ham or Blackpool back up, Blackpool because they were a thrill to watch last year, West Ham so when I’m in London later this year I have a marginally better shot at seeing Everton play again.

The FoxSoccer2Go schedule does not list either of the nPower second legs for next week. Do you know for sure if they will be carried by FoxSoccer2Go? I can’t imagine that they won’t cover them…but stranger things have happened.

(BTW, I love that they have some of the off-air open mic half time conversations…waiting for a verbal slip up from someone… 🙂 )

Both matches will be on FOX Soccer Plus, and since they’ll be on FOX Soccer Plus, they’ll also be on FOX Soccer 2Go 🙂

A rather conservative first half by Birmingham finally caught up with them at the death of the half. A fortunate deflection but probably a deserved goal. Should make for an interesting second half.

Pulling for Blackpool, always entertaining, love how they always are looking to go forward.

Crazy that all 3 drops from last EPL season are in fight for last promo spot. Although West Ham looks strong, would like to see Blackpool come back up.
