Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, teammates and friends of Piermario Morosini, the Livorno midfielder who tragically died today after suffering a heart attack on the field in a Serie B game against Pescara.
As can be seen from the video footage below, Morosini collapsed on the field while playing for Livorno. The on-loan midfielder from Udinese unsuccessfully tried to get up after receiving medical treatment. Morosini was then taken on a stretcher and placed in an ambulance. Sadly, the 25-year-old died on the way to the hospital.
As a result of the tragic death, all games in Italian soccer (including Serie A) were suspended this weekend.
Morosini’s death comes less than a month after Fabrice Muamba collapsed on the pitch for Bolton in the Premier League. Similarly to Muamba, a defibrillator was used to try to resuscitate Morosini.
