A Tour Around The Birthplace of Manchester City: Video

If you’ve ever been curious about the history of English football clubs, and specifically where clubs played before they built their modern era stadium, the following video will be of interest to you. Manchester City club historian Gary James takes you (and Manchester City academy footballers) on a tour of the city of Manchester to find the site of where City was first formed, as well as the playing fields they first graced.

As you’ll see in the accompanying video, some of the players looked quite bored, while others were interested. To me, it’s an interesting insight into City’s history to see how far they’ve come.

Don’t forget Frank Gallagher and the actor that plays him Vernon Francis. Come to think of it there have been a few fictional and non & fictional characters that have been City fans.

Fictional- Jimmy Grimble (film) DCI Gene Hunt from Life on Mars, Young Kenny in Phoenix Nights, Dave from The Royle Family, Paul Calf (Steve Coogan) and many more

Non-fiction. L.S. Lowry (artist) , Ian Curtis (Joy Division), Billy Duffy (The Cult), Liam & Noel Gallagher (Oasis), The Doves, Johnny Marr (The Smiths) Jason Orange (Take That) Mike Pickering (M People), Reni (Stone Roses), Mark E. Smith (The Fall), Rick Wakeman (yes) Mike Joyce (the Smiths), Damon Gough (Badly Drawn Boy), Jim Glennie (James), Rob Gretton (New Order Manager), Alan Carr (comedian), Jason Manford (comedian), Dirk Benedict (American Actor), Timothy Dalton (Actor), Marsha Thomason (actress), Warren Clarke (actor), Mike Wedderburn & John Gwynne (SKY Sports), Michael O’Leary (CEO of Ryanair), Ivan Gazidis (CEO of Arsenal & former Deputy Commissioner of the MLS), David Bernstein (Chairman of the FA), Andrew ‘Freddy’ Flintoff (Cricket), Ricky Hatton (boxing), Marco Pierre White (Chef he even does the food at the club!) and many more, City even have one of the Royal Family, Princess Beatrice of York.
