Let me set the scene. Newcastle United had been having their best season in decades. But after blowing a huge lead at the top of the Premiership, they know they that must bring back three points from Merseyside to stay in compeition with Alex Ferguson’s  (Not a sir back then) Manchester United.

Liverpool themselves were still in the hunt for the title, and knew a win over their Kevin Keegan’s side could inspire real belief in their title challenge.

So in a game with so much to play for, many would have expected a close tense game. What followed was anything but…
