Podolski Takes The Blame For Germany's Shock Loss To Serbia.

After Germany’s shock 1-0 loss to Serbia, Podolski held up his hands and shouldered the blame. Nemanja Vidic’s ridiculous handball in the penalty area gave Germany the chance to get back into the game, having already gone 1-0 down and having Klose sent off. Podolski stepped up and took the penalty, but Serbian goalkeeper Stojkovic made the save.

In a post-match interview, Podolski spoke about the penalty miss and the match itself.

From Goal.com:

“We are of course disappointed,” the Koeln striker said.

“I think that my penalty was not that bad, but the keeper reacted very good. If I score a goal with the penalty, we got one point. So that’s my fault. I think we played a good second half, having much more chances to score. I had the chance to score maybe three goals.  Against Australia we scored with these chances. But that’s it. At one day you are the hero, and at another one you are the idiot.  The yellow/red card was too hard in my opinion. But the referee decided and we have to live with this decision. Now we have to look forward to the match against Ghana,” added Podolski. “We hope that we can win this.”

Podolski’s performance summed up the match for Germany, who were very lacklustre compared to their opening round 4-0 drubbing against Australia.

Now, Germany have it all to do against Ghana going into game three. Without a win, Germany could be taking the early flight home, should Serbia defeat Australia.
