Dempsey's Wondergoal

I don’t know how much longer this will stay up on Youtube, but Clint Dempsey’s goal to send Fulham into the final eight of the UEFA competition is just a thing of beauty.

Update – I found this version of the video which includes the commentary from US’s Gol TV. For our friends in the UK who may not be familiar, the color commentator is Ray Hudson, one of the most wonderfully over-the-top voices in sports. I love his line that Dempsey, in lining up this shot, “takes account of everything in the universe into consideration.”  Classic!

    Quality.
Argue all you like its still top drawer.
Did he mean it? was it a cross?
As long as he says he meant it, what a goal.

Haha i saw some english article on skysport saying that it might have been a cross i gave him a piece of my mind and told him gerrard doesn’t even finish like that! There are a short list of players I have seen finish like that. Dempsey is HUGELY underrated and he will shine bright before he’s done.

It’s insulting to mistake Phil Hudson for Tommy Smyth. Come on guys.

That was Ray Hudson not Tommy Smyth with a Y….duh!

I think the goal he scored against us (Stoke) was the better of the two, pretty much the whole home crowd applauded that one. Love to sign him, he’s vastly underrated and a player not playing for the top four as Cahill or Bellamy.

What a goal, it was even better live (thanks GOL TV). I liked watching Dempsy when he played for the Revoultion. I’m glad he is having a career at Fullham. This is why I love football.

Donovan may have been the American darling of the EPL for the last few months but Dempsey’s been producing highlights like that for a while now. He’s to thank for them still being in the EPL with his goal against Liverpool a couple of years ago and now he sends them past Juve in the Europa League. Well done.

    COYW!!!!!!

It was a shot, not a pass.

it was a cross to Zamora on the back stick…
Great win though, Fulham deserved it in the end, but that was a cross to the back post

That was no pass. That was a shot.

Even the commentators agreed, “Yes, he meant it.” Give him credit.

He would of looked back post to see if someone was making a run before getting the ball or making what you call a “cross”. It was moreso due to field presence and a little luck, not like the goal posts move…

Was a great shot, looks like Dempsey wasn’t affected by that knee injury too much. Aside from the shot he played really well against Juve.

I think the saddest thing about daveg’s comment is that it’s not yet the most-thumbed-down comment in the history of EPL Talk.

It was a frigging SHOT. Period. It wasn’t remotely a “cross.”

I was jumping up and down after this goal and screaming my head off. What a fantastic goal. I think Dempsey has two of the best goals all season. WOW!! What a game and what a goal.

I hope the English clubs aren’t drawn together for at least one more round (you know they will be in the semis, if not before).

I don’t anyone’s gonna want any part of Fulham, particularly if the second leg is at the Cottage.
