EPL Talk Podcast: Respect Campaign

The EPL Talk Podcast discusses the FA’s Respect campaign towards officials. Why are officials so badly treated by supporters, players and managers? Has the campaign had any positive affect? Why does John Yerry always lead a group of Chelsea players to crowd around the officials? Why does Sir Alex Ferguson always seem to blame the officials when Manchester United has an unexpectedly bad result?

Sure, these are generalizations but sometimes perception becomes reality. All aspects of officiaiting and complains about officials broken down on today’s EPL Talk podcast.

I have a really good idea. Why don’t the referees EARN the players’ respect by not making lousy calls?
Yeah it’s a hard job. If they want it easy McDonalds’ always hiring.

I’m all for the respect campaign. Our children need to see a good example so there’s no excuse for the mob surrounding the ref on every call. Having said that, the ref’s must be held to account when they make dodgy calls that cost teams vital points. Drogba was booked for over acting, but fair dues Jonny Evans should have been booked as well. Chelsea were given a free kick for nothing and scored with a man offside and tackling our player. Then Ngog does a half gainer in the box and a penalty is given. Are the ref’s being held to account by the FA? No, instead we’re all being lectured about respect.
