Is Alonso the missing piece?

xabi-alonso1Real Madrid have signed a whole host of superstars this summer and are continually linked with more and more players on a daily basis. Most of the players are attackers or strikers as Real Madrid seem to want to replicate the Galacticos period they had before by mostly ignoring their defence. After watching their game against Shamrock on Monday night it was clear that the team were missing something. They have a whole host of talent in the team there is no doubt about that but it all counts for nothing if you can’t make it all play together, could Xabi Alonso be the man to do this?

Alonso seems keen to pull on a Real Madrid shirt and Real seem keen to sign the midfielder but as of yet no agreement has been made with Real possibly having to sell befor ethey can buy any more. Alonso was one of, if not the best player for Liverpool last season. Torres and Gerrard often get the headlines and take the glory but Alonso pulls the strings in the middle of the park and makes Liverpool tick. If you look back at Liverpools record last season you will see that a lot of the games in which Liverpool dropped points in Alonso didn’t actually start.

Real Madrid are in need of a player of Alonso’s quality to be the engine of th eteam because the central midfielders that are at the club are OK but don’t have skill or qualities required to run the midfield area of a team filled with such superstars. Although the deal looks likely to go through it is far from certain at the moment but a host of Premiership clubs also said to be hovering to swoop if nothing is sorted ot quickly. Alonso could turn Real from a good team to a great team.

I personally feel that we don’t need Xabi because we have great central midfielders like Sneijder, Guti, and Gago. But having Xabi in our squad wouldn’t hurt either you know. But I feel like Real needs to transfer in a very good left back. Marcelo is good, but he is no consistant as a player.

I think Xabi Alonso is the missing piece in Real Madrid. While Lassana Diarra does the dirty work, Xabi will have the freedom he needs to run the show; and with Kaká, Ronaldo, Robben, and Benzema in front, Xabi will have speed and talent up front like few teams have ever seen.
