At the halfway point of the Italian Serie A, Inter’s hold on a 4th consecutive scudetto seems to be slipping because of the performance by our Team Of The Week for Week 19. The team of the week made headlines and/or played games during the calendar week of January 12 – 18. The Serie A Team Of The Week is:

Atalanta Bergamasca Calcio

The team better known as Atalanta, located in Bergamo just miles east of Milan stunned Italian football this weekend and probably Europe as well with their impressive 3-1 victory over Inter on Sunday at Atleti Azzurri d’Italia. The match ended Inter’s 13 match Serie A unbeaten streak and handed Jose Mourinho’s crew its 2nd loss of the season. The Nerazzurri of Bergamo jumped on the Nerazzurri of Milan early when Sergio Floccari scored in the 18th minute, then old war horse Cristiano Doni put Inter out of their misery with a brace, scoring in the 28th & 33rd minute. Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored late to avoid the clean sheet but the loss was embarassing enough for Inter. Sergio Floccari has been excellent this season scoring 10 goals helping Atalanta to a solid mid-table position just 5 points from a UEFA Cup spot. For their impressive 3-1 victory over the top team in Italy, Atalanta Bergamasca Calcio is the Week 19 Serie A Team Of The Week.
