Beginning in January, Major League Soccer Talk will be undergoing a major overhaul. Bi-weekly podcasts will accompany nearly daily commentary and analysis about the latest happenings in MLS and the wide world of American soccer.  We aim to be your one stop shop for cutting edge commentary about the beautiful game in the United States.

Some thoughts on the events of the past few days. I love the signing by Bruce Arena and the LA Galaxy of Donovan Ricketts. A keeper of Ricketts caliber is difficult to find in CONCACAF,  and while his stint at Bolton of the EPL did not go well, he is a keeper of a very high standard.

MLS Rumors has reported that Chivas USA and FC Dallas are both interested in signing Jared Borgetti, another famous flop at Bolton. Borgetti will likely be more useful on the pitch for the Hoops but as a marketing tool for Chivas.  Hoiwever, if the LA based club is looking simply to sell Guadalajara fans on venturing out to Carson to see the team play, Borgetti may not be the best marketing tool unless the club is looking to win over Mexican-American fans of other FMF clubs.

I love the Crew’s promotion of Robert Warzycha. A player who helped define the club in MLS’ early years, the Crew will be able to count on a certain degree of continuity despite Sigi Schmid’s defection to Seattle. If Chad Marshall stays in MLS as had been rumored the past few days, Columbus must be considered the favorite to win MLS Cup again next season.
