The big headline for the weekend involving Americans was the hat trick, the first ever by an American on European soil by Michael Bradley in Heerenveen’s 4-2 victory over FC Gronigen. Bradley scored all three goals of his goals in the first half as his club cruised to victory.

Steve Cherundolo played all 90 minutes in the 4-3 victory for Hanover 96 over Werder Bremen Saturday. This game which was broadcast live in the United States on GOL TV was one of the most entertaining matches of the European season from my vantage point. Cherundolo had a nice effort pushing up from his right back position and supporting the attack.

Heath Pearce started in an unfamiliar left midfield role as Bayer Leverkusen kept up its pressure on Bayern Munich atop the Bundesliga with a 3-0 smashing of Pearce and Hansa Rostock.

Bobby Convey had an outstanding day on the left flank in Reading’s 3-1 victory over Liverpool at the Madjeski. Convey helped set up James Harper’s breakaway goal that sealed the victory. Marcus Hahnemann played outstanding between the posts forthe Royals.

Jay DeMerit’s Watford side continues its strong push for promotion after a nill nill draw versus Stoke City.

Frank Simek’s Sheffield Wednesday side had its match with Coventry abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch.

Scandinavian League seasons are over so many Americans in those leagues are either on holiday like Charlie Davies or simply competing in the UEFA cup, like Danny Califf.
