Oh, to be Champions! (EPL Talk Preview)

Arsenal have turned it around! They are the only English club who consider this week a successful folly into the clouds of Europe. United and City both underwhelmed whilst Chelsea were nothing short of dumbfounding in their lack of cohesion.

AVB demands that he can motivate his players, but the pod consider what it is like to break the Mourinho mould. Is it a step to far for the man who used to sit on Jose’s back room staff?

Sunday is already calling for Roberto and Kenny, but whilst the Manc has had to balance Europe with Euphoria Kenny has been focussing on 4pm on Sunday. Steve Clarke will be looking to utilise Liverpool’s strengths again, but how will they line up? Kartik and Kristan compare lineups.

This week Kevin Harris makes his debut on the podcast. Welcome him on and feedback on twitter. We take the opportunity to chat with him about issues in football and how we can approach them more aggressively. He also has a unique experience of Cyprus and we plug him for Cypriot inside knowledge.

Tweet along with the podcast and give us your views for the next show, as we enter the international break this is a great time to look at the league and see who is going up or breaking down:

Excellent job by Kevin Harris on his first appearance on the EPL Talk Podcast!

Finally! good to hear that santos is an upgrade over clichy, after critisising him without seeing him play enough in epl. clichy is a good player but his lapse in concentration cost us a lot of time.
I am not saying that santos is better than clichy(may be he’s better), but you have to make it up in the final third if you are not that great defensively, santos scored more goals than clichy did in his entire arsenal career and to top that he getting better defensively every game. dortmund game was the example.

Kevin, if you read this, you’re a superb addition to the podcast. Incredible job. I hope (and I’m sure I speak for most EPLTalk listeners when I say this) you guest in not just a few future episodes but ALL future episodes from here on out.. Yes, ALL. Take the time out weekly and join Lawrence, Kartik, Jesse, Kristan etc to talk football. Whereas Kartik is very useful in encyclopedic and tactical knowledge (not that you aren’t), you clearly have something that I think was missing: a strong sense of opinion and a ‘don’t suffer fools gladly’ disposition. I like it.
    Cheers.

a hour an a half and never were the words Tottenham Hotspurs uttered, just the usual suspects with much hyperbole. We can talk about Arsenal as potential champions for eons with a straight face (which surplanted the unbeateable Chelsea of a few weeks ago) and bluster on and on about the same 5 teams every week.
New Castle in 3rd was previously ignored (except to assure us they are falling-though Arsenal and Chelsea falling are fascinating topics week in week out) and now the Spurs who apparently are in far worse form than Arsenal can’t get a word in edgewise. EPL = 20 team league right?

    Question for the show

    1. What does man utd have to do to find their scoring form that they had early season

1a What do you guys think of the foul on arfa by ferdinand ? The right call or no?

    2. For kartik Even though they drew yesterday, is Arsenals turnaround enough to keep Wenger’s job for now or will we know at the end of the season? Or…will his CL wins also be a factor?

  6. Nelson says:

My thoughts exactly. The Spurs are 9 games unbeaten and are not even mentioned. How can you have a discussion on Arsenal being champions without mentioning Spurs or even Newcastle for that matter.

  7. The Gaffer says:

Nelson, Spurs were mentioned at length on the most recent episode at http://epltalk.com/podcasts/2011/tribute-to-gary-speed-epl-talk-review-37396

    Cheers,
    The Gaffer
