Ahead of Friday’s FIFA World Cup Draw that will be televised live on Telemundo and Universo beginning at 9:30am ET, Telemundo Deportes has announced more details regarding its coverage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. NBCUniversal/Telemundo and América Móvil jointly submitted on Thursday to the Mexican Football Federation bids for the Mexico National Team media rights, one for the United States, and the other for the rest of the world, for two World Cup cycles. NBCSN and Telemundo combined their efforts Sunday to attract more than 1 million viewers for Manchester United’s opening game of the 2017/18 season against West Ham United. The match from Old Trafford in England averaged 680,000 viewers on NBCSN for the game that was televised live from 11am-1pm ET on Sunday, August 13. The game was also broadcast in Spanish-language by Telemundo, which averaged 348,000 viewers. Telemundo Deportes’ exclusive Spanish-language coverage of the FIFA Confederations Cup averaged 1.2 million total viewers and 605,000 adults 18-49, and delivered 46 million streaming minutes on digital platforms. The coverage reached over 16 million viewers on television, outperforming Univision networks’ broadcast of the FIFA Confederations Cup South Africa 2009, which aired in similar time periods by +47% and +29% respectively, according to Nielsen.
