The first Cascadia Cup of the 2017 MLS season between Seattle Sounders and Portland Timbers averaged 554,000 viewers on the FOX network and FOX Deportes combined on Saturday, May 27. With a scheduled kick-off time of 3:10pm ET, the match immediately followed the 2016/17 FA Cup final between Arsenal and Chelsea. While the FA Cup final averaged 836,000 on the FOX network, the Seattle-Portland match had 472,000 viewers on the same network and 82,000 on the Spanish-language FOX Deportes. MLS opener between Portland-Minnesota scores disappointing TV ratings on FS1

The opening game of the 2017 MLS season between Portland Timbers and Minnesota United scored a disappointing viewing audience of 235,000 across FS1 and FOX Deportes combined, according to Sports TV Ratings. The game ended in a 5-1 scoreline to the Timbers on a rainy night in Oregon. The match was televised live from 9:30-11:30pm ET featuring host Rob Stone and commentators John Strong and Alexi Lalas. Los Angeles (AFP) – The Portland Timbers handed Minnesota United FC a rude welcome to Major League Soccer with a 5-1 thrashing of the expansion side as the 2017 season kicked off. Ridgewell arrested for drink-driving in US

Los Angeles (AFP) – Portland Timbers captain Liam Ridgewell has been arrested for drink-driving after rushing to the aid of goalkeeper Jake Gleeson following a late-night car crash, reports said Tuesday. Former Birmingham and West Bromwich Albion defender Ridgewell failed a roadside sobriety test after driving to pick up Gleeson from the scene of a two-vehicle accident. Gleeson also failed a sobriety test, reports said. Both players had refused to be breathalyzed. New York (AFP) – Reigning MLS Cup champions the Portland Timbers missed out on a playoff berth as the regular season concluded Sunday with a welter of matches that included a big win for New York City FC. Portland needed a win against the Vancouver Whitecaps to reach the post-season, but fell 4-1 to their Cascadia Cup rivals at BC Place.
