10 things we learned from MLS gameweek 3

Here are the 10 things we learned from week three of MLS. 1. New beginnings in San Jose Thanks in large part to MLS’ generous hand in scheduling the Chicago Fire as the opposition on opening day at the new Avaya Stadium, the San Jose Earthquakes’ big day went off without a hitch. Avaya is gorgeous, easily one of the best venues in the league. The soccer is coming along, albeit slowly, with San Jose’s best coach since they returned in 2008 in Dominic Kinnear, and a roster finally transitioning from brawn to true skill. It appears that the ‘Quakes ... Read more

Check Out Designs of Minnesota Vikings’ MLS Stadium Plans [PHOTOS]

A group headed by Minnesota Vikings executives today revealed computer-generated images of how their new stadium could potentially look for MLS matches, provided their city was to be awarded with a fresh MLS franchise.  The state of the art (American) football stadium is on pace to open in July of 2016, and from the pictures presented, looks like a very impressive venue. While an NFL team sharing a stadium with an MLS team is surely nothing new, the Vikings’ group is proposing a somewhat unique feature for seating inside of the stadium.  Vikings Vice President Lester Bagley is suggesting the use of ... Who Is Miguel Ibarra?

Do not feel bad if you are one of the many that are unfamiliar with the California native who was called up to the US Men’s National Team squad for last Friday’s 1-1 draw against Ecuador, and is included in Tuesday’s squad for the match against Honduras. Even though he received his first call up to ... Read more

The 2008 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup played out it’s second round last night across the country.  The remaining 16 teams from the opening round battled it out for their guranteed chance to face one of the qualifying eight Major League Soccer teams in just a week’s time. Among the highlights: *The lone remaining amateur side, Hollywood United, were bounced from the tournament by the MLS bound Seattle Sounders 6-0.  Seattle put two past Hollywood in the opening 15 minutes, and then striker Sebastien Le Toux took over, netting four consecutive goals (two in the first half, two in the second half) to ... FSC Telecast features GOL TV Ad

Before you get all excited about a potential merger let me clarify what the title is referring to. Last night Miami FC played Minnesota Thunder live on FSC in front of friends and family at the Orange Bowl. (paid attendance was listed as under 1,000, far worse than the numbers Miami FC were drawing at Tropical Park Stadium.) But what was noteworthy about the match was that Miami FC’s shirt sponsor GOL TV was featured prominently during an FSC telecast of the match. The two channels are rivals for the American soccer specific cable TV market. What is even more ... Read more
