Tudor set to reign at Galatasaray after Riekerink ousted

Istanbul (AFP) – Istanbul giants Galatasaray on Tuesday were set to appoint former Croatian international Igor Tudor as new manager after firing Dutch manager Jan Olde Riekerink because of lacklustre results. Galatasaray’s top executives held an emergency meeting about the Dutchman’s future following the 1-2 home defeat to lowly Kayserispor on Sunday, the Hurriyet daily and Dogan news agency said. Van Persie, Tosic suspended after Istanbul derby fracas

Istanbul (AFP) – Turkey’s football federation on Thursday suspended Fenerbahce’s star Dutch striker Robin van Persie for three games and Serbian defender Dusko Topic of Besiktas for four after a standoff in a tense Istanbul cup derby this week. The two had been involved in an off-the-ball incident in the February 5 game which saw Tosic sent off in the 41st minute but Beskitas fans feel van Persie also deserved red for exaggerating the contact. Quaresma extends Besiktas deal until 2020

Istanbul (AFP) – Portuguese international winger Ricardo Quaresma has signed a three-year contract extension with Turkish champions Besiktas until 2020, the Istanbul club said on Tuesday.  “I’m proud to play for this great club. Besiktas always and forever,” the 33-year-old wrote on his Instagram account. The former Porto star, who has also had spells at Barcelona, Inter Milan and Chelsea, was part of the Portugal team that claimed the country’s first major title at Euro 2016.  He has contributed nine assists and one goal in 17 league appearances for Besiktas this season. Adebayor joins Turkey’s Basaksehir

Istanbul (AFP) – Togo captain and former English Premier League star Emmanuel Adebayor on Tuesday joined Turkish top flight side Medipol Basaksehir of Istanbul, surprise contenders for this year’s league title. The club announced that the 32-year-old former Arsenal, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur forward was joining on its official Instagram page, posting a picture of the player undergoing a medical. Club chairman Mustafa Seral told the Anadolu news agency that Adebayor was arriving on a one and a half year contract and would make a “major contribution”. Ex-Liverpool striker Babel signs for Besiktas

Istanbul (AFP) – Former Liverpool striker on Monday signed a three year deal with top Istanbul side Besiktas, the club said in a statement. Former Dutch international Babel, who played for Liverpool from 2007 to 2011, was a free agent after his contract with Deportivo La Coruna expired.
