FOX Sports picks up more Liga MX TV rights with Monterrey and Santos Laguna acquisitions

Hot on the heels of the news that FOX Sports has acquired the rights to Xolos games in the United States for both English- and Spanish-language broadcasts, we can now reveal that FOX Sports has picked up more Liga MX TV rights. This time it’s for Club de Fútbol Monterrey, the oldest active team in Mexico, and Santos Laguna, the current Liga MX champions. FOX Sports acquires Club Tijuana Liga MX rights in English and Spanish

FOX Sports has announced that it has acquired the Spanish-language and English-language rights to Club Tijuana home games in Liga MX and Copa MX. Both FOX Sports and FOX Deportes will begin broadcasting games featuring Xolos starting this summer. The announcement represents a huge milestone for Liga MX as it’s the first time that FOX Sports has dipped its toe in the water to bring Liga MX to English-language viewers in the United States. Chivas dropped by Univision from summer 2019 onwards, says source

Liga MX club Chivas will no longer be televised on Univision after the summer of 2019 when the current TV deal ends, according to a source that’s close to the deal. The news came as a surprise to CD Guadalajara. According to Chivas vice-president Amaury Vergara Zatarian, “I cannot officially say we won’t be renewing the contract with Univision or otherwise because the club has not received an official statement from the broadcaster regarding their interest to continue or cease this partnership. Univision Deportes delivered a massive viewing number for Saturday night’s Superclásico between Chivas and América on Spanish-language television in the United States. The high-stakes matchup between América and Guadalajara averaged 2.5 million viewers on the Univision Network, with simulcast on Univision Deportes Network, and was the top-rated soccer event on any network year-to-date, regardless of language.
