Freddy Adu has been named a reserve for Benfica in tomorrow’s Champions League Qualifier versus FC Copenhagen. “Adu has only had seven days of training, but he has enormous potential and he is available,” Benfica coach Fernando Santos said.
But he hasn’t signed yet. Adu has been granted permission by MLS to personally negotiate with Benfica. The Washington Post reported that the deal was “99% done” on Saturday morning, and Adu missed Real Salt Lake’s 2-1 loss Saturday night to New England, but no announcement has been made yet.
