Despite being available in far fewer homes in the United States, Telemundo is generating more viewers across television than FOX Sports after the first five days of the 2018 FIFA World Cup tournament. Telemundo is in more than 53 million homes in the United States. FOX Sports, who have been broadcasting games on the over-the-air FOX network and FS1, are in 116 million homes (FOX) and 84 million homes (FS1) respectively. Brazil-Switzerland scores 8.4 million viewers on FS1 and Telemundo

Sunday’s World Cup match between Brazil and Switzerland averaged 8.4 million viewers across FS1, Telemundo and NBCSN in the Seleção’s first game of the tournament. The Spanish-language broadcast of the game was watched by 4,350,000 viewers across Telemundo and NBCSN, while FOX Sports averaged 4,086,000 viewers for a game that was televised on FS1 instead of FOX because the main FOX network was contractually obligated to broadcast the US Open golf tournament. Mexico-Germany delivered more than 11 million viewers across Telemundo Deportes and FOX Sports combined in a World Cup game that broke several records for both broadcasters. Telemundo’s live coverage of the World Cup game between Mexico and Germany averaged 7.12 million viewers, making it the most-watched sporting event ever in the history of the Spanish-language Telemundo network. FOX adds Clarence Seedorf to try to resuscitate World Cup studio analysis

In an obvious attempt to try to boost disappointing World Cup tactical analysis by FOX Sports’ studio talent, the US English-language broadcaster has hired Clarence Seedorf to join the FOX team for the duration of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Seedorf will be based in Moscow and will offer his tactical nous to the pre-match, half-time and post-match analysis on FOX Sports. FOX’s World Cup commentators schedule for group stage of Russia 2018

FOX Sports has announced the assignments of commentators for the group stage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. With only two lead commentators out of six in Russia (while all of the others will be calling games off a TV screen from a studio in Los Angeles), it’ll be interesting to see how much of a difference it’ll be to the viewers despite a FOX Sports executive saying it’s no big deal. From June 14 to July 15, FOX Sports will broadcast all 64 World Cup games live across their networks (38 on FOX, 26 on FS1), but what will their schedule look like for all of the shoulder programming — i.e. the pre-match, post-match and entertainment shows? The FOX Sports App will feature 6 different feeds of each World Cup game this June 14 to July 15 for soccer fans in the United States. With the Bonus Feeds, FOX Sports offers five feeds (in addition to the main broadcast stream) for each of the 64 World Cup matches. The feeds will be: Team channels, match 360, tactical view, cable cam and highlights. The bonus feed delivers seven hours of additional coverage per match and 448 total additional hours of coverage over the length of the tournament.
