No beIN SPORTS on DIRECTV or Comcast? It’s time to take action

Soccer fans wield more power than many of us realize, but only if we exercise that power. After breaking the story this morning that beIN SPORTS had acquired the rights to the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana in the United States, our Twitter account was met with a tirade of soccer fans complaining that they don’t have access to beIN SPORTS. While that may be true if you’re AT&T or Comcast Xfinity subscribers, we soccer fans have an opportunity to use our power to influence change. We face three choices: 1) Grin and bear it, and continue complaining into the ... Read more

The importance of the acquisition deal by beIN SPORTS in obtaining the rights to the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana for the next four years in the United States cannot be overstated. Speaking to World Soccer Talk, beIN SPORTS’ deputy managing director for the U.S. and Canada Antonio Briceño said there was a lot of interest in acquiring the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana competitions. “There were [other bidders], but the deciding factor [in CONMEBOL agreeing to do the deal with beIN SPORTS] is what they’ve seen us do with LaLiga in the past six years. “We will be the ... beIN SPORTS refiles FCC carriage complaint against Comcast

beIN SPORTS has refiled their FCC carriage complaint against Comcast arguing that the cable provider is discriminating against beIN SPORTS and beIN SPORTS en Español. In July 2018, Comcast removed beIN SPORTS from its cable networks in what appeared to be retaliation for beIN SPORTS filing a FCC carriage dispute complaint against the country’s largest cable provider. That filing by beIN SPORTS was dismissed by the FCC without prejudice due to a lack of evidence, thus allowing beIN SPORTS the opportunity to refile the complaint at a later date, if they so wished. The original FCC filing in March 2018 ... Read more

No beIN SPORTS on DIRECTV or Comcast? No problem. Watch el Clásico

With beIN SPORTS no longer available on DIRECTV, Comcast Xfinity or DIRECTV NOW, the number of choices available to watch this Sunday’s el Clásico has been reduced for soccer fans in the United States. As of press time, there have been zero updates about the situation between beIN SPORTS, DIRECTV and Comcast since our interview with a beIN SPORTS executive in September. At this stage, it looks very unlikely that a deal will be struck between beIN SPORTS and DIRECTV anytime soon. And it appears even less likely that beIN SPORTS will return to Comcast anywhere in the near future. ... Read more
