Top 3 best and worst Arsenal kits from Puma era

Earlier in the week, Arsenal finally officially announced that they are partnering with Adidas following the completion of the current campaign. The five-year deal with the German sportswear manufacturer is reportedly worth £300 million ($391 million), which would be the third largest annual kit contract in world football (only behind Barcelona and Manchester United). The Gunners previously partnered with Adidas from 1986 to 1994. During this stretch, Arsenal had some of their most iconic kits. Most notably were the away uniforms from when the Gunners won the league at Anfield in 1989 and the ever-popular ‘bruised banana’ kits from 1991-1993. ... Read more

Aaron Ramsey standoff different from previous Arsenal contract debacles

Arsenal have a history of leaving potential contract expirations late in recent years. Important players such as Robin van Persie, Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Özil, and Jack Wilshere all entered the final year of their contracts with the club before ultimately deciding on their future. Some were eventually sold, one re-signed with Arsenal, and one was allowed to make a free transfer to another team at the end of their deal. The next player to follow suit in this trend with the Gunners is Aaron Ramsey. Reports surfaced on Thursday that despite the fact that a deal was thought to be ... Read more

An in-depth look at Granit Xhaka’s misunderstood game

Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka has been one of the more scrutinized players in the Premier League since he joined the Gunners in 2016. Decision making and lack of discipline from the Swiss international appear to be the biggest issues for fans around the world. Despite these supposed problems, it seems as if every manager that Xhaka has played for has rated him fairly highly. Heiko Vogel, Lucien Favre, Ottmar Hitzfeld, Vladimir Petkovic, Arsene Wenger, and now Unai Emery have all stuck by the midfielder. So why does Xhaka turn off so many fans? Looking into the numbers, the Arsenal midfielder has ... Read more

Stats show Hector Bellerin is important to Arsenal’s offense

Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin is quite the polarizing player. Even is own team’s fanbase is fairly split on whether or not the Spaniard is a top player. In fact, audible groans from inside the Emirates can be heard over televisions all over the world whenever the 23-year-old defender makes even the slightest mistake on the pitch. This discernible disapproval by some accomplishes little and even constrains the player’s confidence before everyone’s eyes. Despite this criticism, Arsenal manager Unai Emery has made it a point to run much of his offense through his talented defender. While it may be odd to some ... Read more

No need to panic for Emery’s Arsenal just yet

Beginning a season with consecutive defeats is never a good thing. Being six points behind fellow top four favorites right off the bat immediately puts unwanted pressure on a club. This is especially the case when a new manager is at the helm. All of these things apply to Arsenal at the moment. Despite these early concerns, context does, however, need to be included when discussing the north London club’s weak start to the current campaign. Unai Emery’s Arsenal failed to record a single point against Manchester City and away to Chelsea. City, the reigning Premier League champions, are widely ... Read more

Assessing Unai Emery’s first Arsenal match in the Premier League

The Unai Emery era began on Sunday with a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City. The defending Premier League champions seemed sharp, especially for the opening match of the season. It was clearly evident, however, that the Gunners were playing their first competitive game in nearly three months. Arsenal’s front line squandered solid scoring chances throughout the match and the distribution from defense was noticeably shaky. While the ending result was fairly predictable, it was interesting to catch a glimpse of what Emery is bringing to his new team. The former PSG boss deployed a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Granit Xhaka and ... Read more

Grading Arsenal’s 2018 summer transfer window ins and outs

Transfer deadline day is always a big moment for Premier League fans. It’s the final day in which teams can strengthen their squad via transfers, but it also concludes the end of wild rumors for a while as well. Although Arsenal were not particularly busy on the day, the north London outfit did, however, utilize the final day of the summer transfer period to offload Lucas Perez. The 29-year-old striker was sold to West Ham for a fee of around £5 million. Though Perez did not garner a massive transfer fee, Arsenal did manage to trim the somewhat hefty squad ... Read more

Former US teen sensation Gedion Zelalem returns after serious injury

There was once a time in which Gedion Zelalem was labeled as America’s next big soccer star. After all, the German-born midfielder transferred from a Maryland area high school varsity team to a major European club at the age of just 16. Within his first year at Arsenal, Zelalem quickly made his way from the U16 team to the U21s. In fact, he was even named in Arsenal’s first team squad for their preseason tour of Asia during the summer of 2013. Just seven months after making the move to England, and still just 16, Zelalem was included in the ... Read more
