Liverpool won their last Premier League title back in 1990 and many people believe that German tactician Jurgen Klopp is capable of bringing the glory days back to Anfield. The Reds have been producing thrilling performances under the former Borussia Dortmund boss, but it remains to be seen if they are capable of winning the domestic trophy.

The Reds Impress in Opening Exchanges

Liverpool kicked off the new Premier League campaign in style. The Reds outplayed Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in the opening match of the season, but it has to be noted that the Gunners were without several first-team regulars back then. Jurgen Klopp’s men suffered a shocking 2-0 loss at Burnley on Matchday 2, but the team quickly returned to winning ways.

After sharing the spoils with Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane, Liverpool recorded four consecutive victories in the national championship and on day 8 they were held to a goalless draw by their fierce rivals Manchester United. The Reds continued to impress in the league, but a 4-3 loss to Bournemouth in December might prove fatal for the Anfield outfit in their race for the title.

Liverpool are no less than seven points behind league leaders Chelsea ahead of Matchday 22 and they need to find their best form as soon as possible if they are to keep their hopes of winning the trophy alive. The Reds face Chelsea at their Anfield on January 31 and the game against Antonio Conte’s troops could very well decide the outcome of the Premier League title race. Jurgen Klopp’s men are expected to go all guns blazing at Chelsea in the genuine six-pointer as this will go down as a must-win game for the hosts.

Is The Current Squad Good Enough?

Jurgen Klopp has a number of high-profile players to choose from, but players listed below are definitely capable of helping Liverpool win their first Premier League trophy since 1990.

Against all odds, summer signing Loris Karius took over the role as first-choice goalkeeper from Simon Mignolet at the start of the season, but after committing a number of costly errors, the German shot-stopper was relegated to the bench. Simon Mignolet is a very experienced goalkeeper and he impressed in a 1-1 draw with Manchester United earlier in January. As things stand now, he will be Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper in the remainder of the season.

Many Liverpool fans wanted Jurgen Klopp to sign a left-back in the summer transfer window, but the German tactician was pretty confident with his options.

James Milner played as a midfielder during his spell with Manchester City, but he has been providing cover for the full-back options at Liverpool. Milner has been producing scintillating performances at left-back this season and he has made penalty-taking duties his own. According to the stats, the England international is one of Liverpool’s most successful penalty-takers ever.

Jurgen Klopp often hails the importance of Jordan Henderson to his Liverpool side. Steven Gerrard’s successor has been a key part of Liverpool’s midfield and he seems irreplaceable at the moment. The Liverpool captain is the man who has completed most passes in the Premier League this season.

Sadio Mane scored on his Liverpool debut against Arsenal and the former Southampton winger has been producing terrific displays in the English top flight ever since. Mane has been playing an important role in Jurgen Klopp’s team this season. The pacey winger has netted nine goals in the English top flight so far this season, but he is currently on international duty with Senegal.

The good news, though, is that Philippe Coutinho has overcome his ankle injury and we predict that the Brazilian ace is going to give Liverpool their creative fulcrum back. Coutinho is undisputedly the team’s key player as he has scored five goals in 14 appearances in the league this season to date, while providing five assists for his teammates. Coutinho’s return is a big boost for Liverpool, but it remains to be seen if he is going to help the Reds regain the domestic trophy. You should bear in mind that a number of football predictions suggest that he is going to finish the season as Liverpool’s top scorer.

Adam Lallana failed to impress in the 2014/2015 season with Liverpool, but he has been making progress ever since Jurgen Klopp took over the reigns. The former Southampton man has netted seven goals and registered as many assists in 19 league appearances this term and it is no surprise Barcelona and Juventus are reportedly hot on his trail. Lallana, though, is eager to commit his future to the Anfield outfit and is in talks with the club chiefs over extending his deal.

Aforementioned midfielder Philippe Coutinho suffered a serious ankle injury in a 2-0 win over Sunderland on November 26 and, as a result, Jurgen Klopp was forced to recall Divock Origi to the starting line-up. The Belgian attacker took advantage of the situation and he has been making life difficult for opposition defenders ever since. Origi has netted seven goals in all competitions, but he is likely to drop to the bench when Sadio Mane returns from Africa Cup of Nations.

Attack is The Way to Go

Anyhow, regardless of which players will be deployed in the starting XI in the remainder of the season, manager Jurgen Klopp is likely to stick to his attacking style of play. The Reds sit in third position in the standings after 21 rounds and seeing that league leaders Chelsea look unstoppable under Antonio Conte, it is no surprise general football predictions are pointing towards the Blues clinching the domestic trophy.

Liverpool, though, are definitely capable of finishing the season in top four as they have been producing brilliant showings in the 2016/2017 season and, unlikely in previous years, they have not been struggling in matches against fellow title rivals this term.

The race for the trophy is not over yet, but the Reds need to improve defensively if they are to turn their long-lasting dream into reality. Taking everything into account, a number of football predictions go in Liverpool’s favour, speaking of their participation in the Champions League next season and we are positive that the Anfield club will book their place in the elite competition.
