Lyon (AFP) – Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes said he suffered “acoustic trauma” but no lasting damage after a firecracker exploded next to him in Saturday’s abandoned match at Metz.
The Ligue 1 clash was called off in the 31st minute after home fans threw projectiles towards Lopes, having just seen Gauthier Hein head Metz in front at their Stade Saint-Symphorien.
The Portugal international was subsequently taken to hospital to undergo tests but confirmed via his Instagram account on Sunday he hadn’t sustained any long-term injuries.
The 26-year-old added he would receive treatment for the next two weeks, with his status for Wednesday’s crucial Champions League game at home to Sevilla uncertain.
Metz, leading 1-0 when play was halted, face the risk of heavy sanctions which could include forfeting the match and Lyon being awarded the win.
