The fact that el Clasico between Barcelona against Real Madrid will not be televised live on British TV this Saturday is an outrage.

Everywhere else in the world — both in the first world and third world — countries will show the game live on television except the United Kingdom. In fact, Barcelona against Real Madrid will be shown live in more than 100 countries. And it’s all because of a decades-old ruling in the UK that forbids live football from being televised between 2:45pm to 5:15pm UK time on Saturdays.

Why? The FA TV blackout ruling is meant to ensure that TV coverage doesn’t negatively impact the attendances for matches in the United Kingdom.

When the FA rule was first established, no one could have envisioned the growth in popularity and accessibility of football from around the world, particularly Spain. But it’s 2016. It’s time for the FA to wake up and realize that football supporters should have the same rights as football fans from all around the world. They should be able to watch live football if they want to.

If you’d like to make a difference, your best bet is to share your outrage about el Clasico being banned from TV by e-mailing The FA and sharing your concerns. Tell them you want the TV blackout to be removed on Saturdays.
