London (AFP) – Jack Wilshere insists his shock loan move to Bournemouth will pay off after the injury-plagued England midfielder left Arsenal on transfer deadline day.

Wilshere trained with Bournemouth for the first time on Thursday as he begins his season-long spell with the Premier League club.

The 24-year-old has endured a substantial fall from grace since emerging as one of England’s brightest young talents following his Arsenal debut in 2008.

Wilshere, who became Arsenal’s youngest league player aged 16 and 256 days, has struggled with a serious of nagging injuries that have sidelined him for much of the last two years.

He has also been embroiled in several unsavoury off-field incidents and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger appeared to lose patience with Wilshere when he agreed to let him leave the Emirates Stadium.

Wilshere reportedly turned down interest from AC Milan, Roma and Crystal Palace and he is adamant the switch to Bournemouth is a positive moment in his bid to get his career back on track.

“I’m delighted to have joined Bournemouth on a season long loan and would like to thank everyone at the club for making me feel so welcome,” Wilshere wrote on Twitter.

“I had a good chat with the manager and feel sure that this is the best place for me to play and develop this season.

“I am looking forward to working hard every day with the coaching staff and my new team-mates to help the club achieve success on the pitch. Thanks for all of your support.”

It has been reported that Bournemouth agreed to pay a £2 million loan fee to Arsenal and will also cover his £80,000-a-week wages.

“I am obviously delighted that he chose us ahead of a number of other clubs and I think he will do really, really well for the team,” Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe told Sky Sports News.

“I think it is a big thing for us. It is a step into the unknown in the respect that Jack is out there on his own in terms of his profile and the type of player we have attracted, but I think it is one that can work for both sides.”

Wilshere, who is not part of Sam Allardyce’s first England squad, could make his Bournemouth debut after the international break at home to West Bromwich Albion on September 10.
