Manchester (United Kingdom) (AFP) – Manchester United’s new signing Paul Pogba is suspended for his side’s Premier League opener at Bournemouth on Sunday, England’s Football Association announced on Friday.

The 23-year-old France midfielder was booked twice while playing for Juventus in last season’s Coppa Italia, incurring a one-game ban that has been transferred to England.

Having only just returned from his holidays after Euro 2016, Pogba was doubtful to feature against Bournemouth anyway.

However, United boss Jose Mourinho admitted he had been unaware of the ban until two days ago.

“I knew this situation with the yellow cards but I didn’t know at that time if the accumulation of yellow cards would bring a player to suspension,” he said.

But the Portuguese insisted his main focus was on the players available to him this weekend.

“I don’t speak about suspended or injured players. I speak about the ones that are ready to play.

“I forget about Paul for a few days and on Tuesday he will be ready to (prepare) to play versus Southampton (next Friday).”

Pogba returned to United earlier this week in a reported 89 million pounds (105 million euros, $116 million) deal that made him the world’s most expensive player. He left United for Juventus in 2012.
