Orlando (AFP) – Brazil coach Dunga gave his backing to goalkeeper Alisson despite his blunder which could have led to defeat against Ecuador in their opening Copa America Centenario game.

Alisson made a hash of a low Miller Bolanos cross, fumbling it into his own net, but the ball was controversially judged to have gone out of play.

But Dunga said there was no question of replacing the 23-year-old keeper, who recently signed with Serie A club AS Roma.

“As a coach, as leader, I have to trust my player. Errors are part of the game, if no one makes errors, no one would win the game,” he said at a press conference ahead of Wednesday’s game with Haiti.

Inter Milan central defender Miranda who missed the Ecuador game through muscle pain, could play some part against Haiti and is back in full-training.

“He will start the training and we will see how he goes and how he reacts,” said the Brazil coach.

Brazil’s preparations in Central Florida have been hampered by the weather and their final session, which as per procedure was due to be on the match field at the Citrus Bowl, was moved to a local college facility.

A tournament spokesperson said the decision had been made to “protect the integrity of the field” after heavy rain before and during Panama’s 2-1 win over Bolivia on Monday on the same pitch.

The surface at the Citrus Bowl is normally artificial turf but real grass sods have been put in place over that surface for the Copa America.

“It can happen that you get some things which may not be normal but we must be prepared to overcome them regardless of the difficulties,” said Dunga.

Improving Haiti lost their opening Group B game against Peru 1-0.
