Madrid (AFP) – Sevilla’s Portuguese goalkeeper Antonio Alberto Bastos, known as “Beto”, announced Tuesday he has quit the La Liga side after three and a half years during which he won three Europa League titles.

“Today is a very sad day for me,” Beto wrote in a farewell letter published on Sevilla’s website as he thanked the club and the town of Seville for their welcome.

Lamenting a 2015-2016 campaign hampered by injuries, Beto said he had been “lucky to have experienced a golden period at FC Sevilla” — winning three Europa League titles to add to the won he achieved with FC Porto in 2011. Sevilla finished seventh in La Liga last season.

Capped 11 times for Portugal, the 34-year-old Beto was not called up for Euro 2016 in France starting on June 10.
