London (AFP) – Kick-off in the Premier League match between West Ham United and Manchester United on Tuesday was delayed by 45 minutes after the visitors’ bus arrived late.

The game, which had been due to begin at 1945 local time (1845 GMT), was pushed back to 2030.

Images circulating on social media showed the Manchester United team bus being pelted with missiles as it arrived at the Boleyn Ground in east London, apparently smashing a window.

Visiting captain Wayne Rooney told Sky Sports it had been “smashed up”.

“We know it’s a big game for West Ham, a big night for them, leaving the stadium, but I’m sure West Ham as a club will be disappointed with what the fans have done,” he added.

It was an inauspicious turn of events on the day West Ham were playing their final game at the Boleyn Ground, which has been the club’s home since 1904.

The club are moving to the nearby Olympic Stadium at the end of season and were due to stage a farewell ceremony following Tuesday’s game.
