Celtic manager Ronny Deila has urged his players to write themselves into the history of the club by winning their fifth league title in a row.

The Hoops have only achieved the feat twice before in their 128-year history with the last coming in the 1970s under the club’s European Cup winning manager Jock Stein who eventually led the club to a record nine titles in a row.

And Deila, whose side sit six points clear of nearest challengers Aberdeen after both sides drew their respective fixtures at the weekend, wants the current crop of Parkhead stars to grasp their chance of making history with the Glasgow giants.

“We lost two points at the weekend and are disappointed by that but it’s good that we’re still in a good situation and we’re looking forward to the game on Wednesday,” Deila, whose side take on Dundee at Celtic Park, said.

“We lost against Aberdeen in September and people said we would lose the league because of that, but I said to wait until April and we can say if it’s a title race or not.

“We need to just keep on winning football games and if Aberdeen keep on winning then it’s going to be close the whole way in. The only thing we can do something with is to win games.

“In the end it’s about quality. Quality is a lot of things. You need to be good in many aspects in football. This club is used to winning trophies and having pressure all the time and a lot of the players have been here for a long while.

“Some of the players here have the possibility to win five times in a row and that’s not happened many times in the history of Celtic so it’s an opportunity to make history. I know the players really want that.”

One of the players who has been a stand out for Celtic in their quest for a League and Scottish Cup double has been Australian international Tom Rogic.

The Socceroos star has been in impressive form for the Glasgow giants this season after overcoming a frustrating injury spell following his arrival from A-League side Central Coast Mariners in January 2013.

A recent report linked the 23-year-old with a move away from Celtic Park but Rogic was quick to dismiss those rumors.

“I know there was a story today suggesting that I want to leave Celtic. This is simply not the case at all,” Rogic told the official Celtic website.

“I am really enjoying my time at Celtic and I am proud to be part of such a great football club.

“I want to extend my contract with Celtic. I am speaking to the Club just now and hopefully this will be agreed very soon.”

Elsewhere on Wednesday, Aberdeen will attempt to keep the pressure up on the league leaders when they travel to Tannadice to take on a Dundee United side that have won their past two games in their battle to avoid relegation.
