They both hold dual nationality but Gonzalo Higuain and Paulo Dybala can expect thousands of fellow Argentinians to be glued to their sets Saturday when Juventus host Napoli in a top-of-the-table clash in Italy’s Serie A.

With 24 goals in as many league games Higuain is blazing a record-setting trail towards Serie A’s ‘Capocannoniere’ (top scorer) award as Napoli target a first league title in 26 years.

Dybala may be 11 goals off the pace, but the 22-year-old’s 13 strikes for the four-time defending champions have been key for Juve on their way to closing the gap to just two points.

Defeat on Saturday is to be avoided at all costs, with Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon suggesting: “A draw would not be an unwelcome result.”

Just how much Higuain and Dybala’s influence is felt remains to be seen.

The pace, movement and occasional goalscoring of Colombian winger Juan Cuadrado offers Juve similar attacking options outside of the players club coach Massimiliano Allegri likes to deem as his strikers.

At Napoli, attacking midfielder Lorenzo Insigne’s contribution — he has scored 10 league goals and provided a league-leading 10 assists — this season has led to calls for the Azzurri to ‘unretire’ Diego Maradona’s number 10 shirt.

Indeed Dybala, who has been transformed from a striker, a role he held at Palermo, to a ‘false number nine’, is a far more similar player to Insigne, whose vision, passing, movement and goalscoring in and around the area has lured Italy coach Antonio Conte to Juventus Stadium this weekend.

Yet when it comes to scoring, an Argentinian showdown would lend a fairytale ending to the most hotly-anticipated fixture since Juventus beat Roma 3-2 in a bad-tempered clash in October 2014.

Like many Napoli players, Higuain has been reborn under new coach Maurizio Sarri, a former banker who fought his way to the top echelons after years of toil and sacrifice in the amateur leagues.

In two previous seasons under Rafael Benitez, France-born Higuain hit a combined total of 35 goals. Under Sarri, the former Real Madrid hitman is targeting the top scorer’s award and Gunnar Nordahl’s 1950 record of 35 goals in a single, 20-team, Serie A season.

Had it not been for Sarri, Higuain might have been ripping opposition defenses apart in the Premier League.

When Higuain cost Napoli a potential Champions League place after missing a penalty in a defeat to Lazio at the end of last season, he was soon being linked with a move to England.

That was until Sarri sat down and spoke of his belief that Napoli could win their first title since club legend Diego Maradona steered the Azzurri to their second scudetto in 1990.

“It was Sarri’s sincerity that won me over,” Higuain sasid. “It took five minutes for him to convince me to stay, and he’s got the best out of me.”

Although both Higuain and Dybala sit in the shadow of compatriot Lionel Messi, Barcelona are among the teams reported to be watching as Dybala continues to wow the Italian champions.

Dybala, whose grandfather Boleslaw Dybala was from Poland, was signed by Juventus well before the end of last season when he finished on a total of 13 goals and 10 assists for Palermo.

While fans expected the slightly-built forward to step into the role left vacant by departing compatriot Carlos Tevez, they were in for a big surprise.

Allegri used Dybala sparingly at the start of the season, insisting the player wasn’t quite ready.

Since then, he has pushed Alvaro Morata down the pecking order with a full range of skills that includes, to boot, dead ball expertise to rival former club legends Andrea Pirlo and Alessandro Del Pirlo.

“Paulo has a real hunger to achieve his targets and works his socks off,” said Allegri.

Retired Ballon d’Or winner Fabio Cannavaro, who had the pleasure of playing for both clubs, admitted to Gazzetta dello Sport Thursday: “Napoli is in my heart.”

But he warned: “Few players can dance along the edge of the area like Dybala. And he knows how to hurt other teams.

“When he is running into space, (Napoli midfielder) Jorginho will have to be extra vigilant.”
