Manchester United’s winger Adnan Januzaj has joined Borussia Dortmund on loan for the rest of the season.

The 20-year-old Belgium international has struggled to fit into the team under manager Louis van Gaal, though he did score the winner against Aston Villa earlier this season, and will move to the Bundesliga club.

Januzaj tweeted a picture of himself holding a Dortmund shirt and said: “Pleased to sign for Dortmund ?? ! Looking forward to new season.”

Januzaj had started two of United’s first three Premier League contests but was held out of Sunday’s trip to Swansea City after picking up an injury mid-week against Club Brugge in UEFA Champions League qualifying.

Since debuting for United in 2013-14, Januzaj has made 47 league appearances, scoring five times while setting up three goals.

Januzaj has also made five national team appearances for Belgium, including one appearance at the 2014 World Cup.

Though Januzaj exits a crowded midfield at Old Trafford, playing time is not assured in Dortmund. An attacking midfield of Marco Reus, former United midfielder Shinji Kagawa, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have started each of BVB’s Bundesliga games, combining for five goals and five assists during Dortmund’s perfect 3-0-0 start.
