West Bromwich Albion has announced they’ve rejected a written transfer request handed in by striker Saido Berahino.

In an official statement from the club, West Bromwich stated:

“West Bromwich Albion have received a written transfer request from Saido Berahino.

“The request has been rejected and the club’s position remains unchanged from that outlined in the statement from Chairman Jeremy Peace of August 18.

“There will be no further comment.”

WBA has already rejected a £15 million bid from Tottenham Hotspur for the striker. Previously, manager Tony Pulis has said that he would be willing to sell Berahino to a top four club for the right offer.

With West Brom rejecting the transfer request, it now forces Spurs to put in a massive offer to convince the Baggies to change their mind. Otherwise, it appears very likely that Berahino will stay at West Brom to help them stay up in the league this season.

With West Brom receiving millions from TV revenue, they don’t have to sell Berahino if they don’t want to.

Meanwhile, Tony Pulis is expected to make widespread changes to his West Brom side against Port Vale in the Capital One Cup – just 48 hours after they played Chelsea.

Speculation surrounding the future of Saido Berahino means the striker is unlikely to feature for the Baggies, having been left out against the champions on Sunday following the rejection of last week's bid from Tottenham.

Brown Ideye and Rickie Lambert could return up front against Vale, while Joleon Lescott may return after being dropped for the last two games and Serge Gnabry should make his full debut.

Provisional squad: Myhill, Rose, Chester, Dawson, McAuley, Lescott, Olsson, Brunt, Yacob, McClean, McManaman, Morrison, Fletcher, Gardner, Sessegnon, Gnabry, Lambert, Ideye, Anichebe, Rondon.
