The US clinched its Gold Cup group last night with a 1-0 win over Haiti, but did little to soothe the fears surrounding this team after its first match against Honduras.

Here are the player ratings for both teams.

USA

Brad Guzan, 8 – Guzan looked every bit the part of international number one, making a big second half stop, commanding his area, and distributing well. It was the kind of performance that makes you wonder what Tim Sherwood is playing at by benching Guzan at Aston Villa.

Brad Evans, 6 – The versatile Evans worked hard and, especially in the first half, covered for plenty of shaky play around him. Evans is limited, and he won’t start much in this tournament, but he’s a valuable player to have around.

Omar Gonzalez, 5 – Unspectacular performance from Gonzalez, who might be on the outside looking in for a starting spot in the rest of this tournament. Strong physically, but never really controlled the back-line.

Tim Ream, 6 – Ream’s first USMNT start in years was mostly a success. He settled as the game went on, and provided some nimble defending.

Greg Garza, 4 – His ball to Zardes that set up the US goal was vital and nicely done, but Garza looked out of his depth all night. He defended poorly, didn’t have great understanding with his teammates, and was replaced in the second half by Fabian Johnson.

Michael Bradley, 6 – Bradley was asked to play as a solo #6 early – certainly not his best position – and it limited his ability to impact the game. He was solid, but nothing more.

Graham Zusi, 4 – Zusi often just doesn’t look like national team quality. He’s not tight enough on the ball and not athletically gifted enough to be a major contributor on this level.

Mix Diskerud, 5 – Diskerud, not for the first time, appeared to be unsure of where he was supposed to be tactically. He improved markedly after the interval, though, distributing better and getting more involved defensively.

Clint Dempsey, 7 – Deuce is by far the US’ best goal-scorer. He’s got all three American goals so far in this tournament, and is probably in some of the best form of his life.

Aron Johannsson, 6 – Had a goal wrongly ruled out for offsides, and stayed positive the whole night. With Altidore struggling, Johannsson’s role could increase.

Jozy Altidore, 3 – After an extremely languid performance against Honduras, Altidore was even worse against Haiti. Is he healthy?

Substitutes

Gyasi Zardes, 7 – Zardes was brought on at halftime for Altidore and immediately created a goal. He was bright and dangerous – now, if he can just be a little cleaner on the ball, he’ll be golden.

Fabian Johnson, 7 – He’s obviously one of the best players on this team. Maybe he’d be even better in midfield, but the US needs him in defense.

Kyle Beckerman, 6 – Did some defensive handiwork after he was brought in late. Still seems like a starter on this team.

Haiti

Johny Placide, 5 – He didn’t have much to do – the US only had six shots – and couldn’t do anything about Dempsey’s goal.

Mechak Jerome, 7 – Nice game from Jerome, who hit the bar in the first half and was solid defensively.

Kim Jaggy, 7 – Calmly played game from Jaggy, who was self-assured and mostly controlled the right flank.

Frantz Bertin, 6 – Like his fellow defenders, Bertin was very strong. Tackled especially well.

Reginal Goreux, 5 – Played his part adequetly, but wasn’t as involved going forward as he could have been.

James Marcelin, 7 – The former Timbers midfielder and current NASL player was a dynamo in the Haitian engine, playing both ways and giving a good showing of himself on the biggest stage he’ll have this year.

Jean-Michel Alexandre, 5 – Picked up an early yellow when he brought down Dempsey, and was quiet the rest of the night. Didn’t make any more big mistakes.

Kevin Lafrance, 6 – Showed a very strong range of passing, giving Haiti some flair in the first half. Was less involved in the second half, and substituted.

Jean-Eude Maurice, 4 – Looked like one of the only Haiti players who didn’t really belong. Slightly off the pace all night.

Wilde-Donald Guerrier, 7 – Ran his tail off all night, could have scored, and made life consistently uncomfortable for the US defense.

Duckens Nazon, 7 – Was creative, and maybe more importantly, fast. Didn’t have the final product, but continually made the game interesting.

Substitutes

Sebastian Thuriere, 5 – Didn’t make much of an impact off the bench.

Jeff Louis, 5 – Same goes for Louis, who wasn’t seen from too much after he entered.

Sony Norde, 5 – Only had ten minutes, and didn’t distinguish himself.
