When Barcelona star Alexis Sanchez was made available during last summer’s transfer market, teams from all over Europe lined up at the chance to snap up the striker.  The three most prominent clubs to show interest were Liverpool, Juventus, and, of course, Arsenal.

Following his £30-£35 million move to the Emirates, there seemed to be a misconception about the reason why the Chile international chose to join the Gunners.  While some claimed Sanchez’s decision was financially based, the 26-year-old made it clear that it was all about Arsenal’s stability and quality.

Alexis stated last July, “With (Mesut) Ozil in the squad Arsenal was close to winning the league title last season.  I hope I can make a contribution so we can win as many titles as possible.  The team not only plays really good football, but the squad is really good and we can win silverware.  We have a great squad and we are a big club.  We can achieve big things.”

“Playing regularly wasn’t the only reason why I came here – I came here to win the league title, the Champions League and every title at stake.  I am here to win titles and to achieve as much as possible.  Arsenal plays very well, which fits my style.  That is why I moved here.”

Arsenal’s third place finish in the Premier League table means that the north London club will once again qualify to play in the Champions League next season (the 18th consecutive year).  While the Gunners feature in the prestigious European tournament on a regular basis, Liverpool, the other Premier League club that attempted to sign Alexis, will miss out on the Champions League next season for the fifth time in the last six years.

The PFA Fans’ Player of the Year echoed his previous statements again this week when he told BT Sport, “The reason why I moved to Arsenal is because there were a group of young players with the ambition to achieve things.  I thought that Arsenal was the perfect club for me, the perfect club to win titles and compete in every competition.”

Alexis also claimed that Arsenal’s manager, Arsene Wenger, was also a massive selling point in joining the Gunners.  The Chilean said, “(Wenger) is a legend.  He is an Arsenal legend.  You learn from him every day.  Sometimes we discuss about things like I would like to train more, and he doesn’t let me!  But he definitely looks after me.”

Arsenal’s managerial stability is another trump card over the Merseyside club.  Where Wenger is looked at as one of the top managers in Premier League history, Liverpool’s Brendan Rodgers is quite frankly not.  The 42-year-old Rodgers is obviously not a terrible manager, however, it does not appear that players are jumping at the chance to play for him, as many are for Wenger and other top coaches in Europe.

Alexis ended his interview by stating his enthusiasm for Arsenal’s upcoming FA Cup final match at the weekend.  ”The FA Cup is a competition with amazing history,” the striker stated.  “Today we watched a video about Arsenal’s previous wins and thanks to the clips I trained with even more motivation.  I hope we can win the cup so the Arsenal supporters are happy.”

The Gunners look to record back-to-back FA Cup triumphs on Saturday when they face off against Aston Villa.  An Arsenal victory would give the Gunners 12 total FA Cup trophies, the most in English soccer history.
