The scenes at La Bombonera last night in Buenos Aires were crazy after a Boca Rivers supporter used a blowtorch to make a hole in the fence and inflatable tunnel, and then pepper sprayed some of the River Plate footballers who were coming out to play the second half.

The eyes of many of the River Plate players were burning. Plus, some of the players who were on the bench lifted their shirts to reveal that they had burns on their back from the pepper spray.

With the score at 0-0 in the second leg, the match and confederation officials eventually decided to suspend the game. River Plate had an aggregate 1-0 lead from the first leg of the Copa Libertadores game that was played one week ago.

In addition to the violence from the fans, there was even a drone that flew above the crowd that had the “ghost of Division B,” a reminder by Boca fans of River Plate’s relegation to Argentina’s second division in 2011.

Argentine football expert Sam Kelly explained what happened during a live broadcast last night on Rabble.tv.
