Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed Thiago Silva will miss Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final return leg against Barcelona.

Silva was substituted after 21 minutes during the first leg in Paris and was replaced by defender David Luiz.

PSG would go on to lose the contest 3-1 and now face the daunting task of reversing the tie without their team captain at the Camp Nou on Tuesday.

There had been hope that Silva would be fit for the return leg, but in an official statement released by the club earlier this morning it was learned the centre-back will not travel with the team to Barcelona.

“Originally named in the Paris Saint-Germain squad for the Champions League quarter-final second leg away to Barcelona on Wednesday, Brazilian defender Thiago Silva has withdrawn from the squad with an injury,” the statement reads.

“The Paris Saint-Germain captain will remain at the Ooredoo Training Centre to continue his rehabilitation from injury.”

PSG will also be without midfielder Thiago Motta, who has missed the last four games with a hamstring injury and was not named in the team’s squad for the second leg.

However, Marco Verratti and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are available for the match against Barcelona after serving one-match suspensions in the first leg.
