Barcelona manager Luis Enrique has marveled at the meteoric adaptation of Luis Suarez to his team this season.

After initial concerns, the Uruguayan has been sensational for Barcelona both domestically and, perhaps most importantly, in Europe.

Suarez played the role of provider during his early months at the club. However, the former Liverpool striker silenced his critics by scoring a brace during Barcelona’s 2-1 Champions League win over Manchester City in late February.

Since that time, the Uruguay international has averaged a goal a game for the Catalan club while helping La Blaugrana overtake Real Madrid in La Liga and advance to the Champions League quarter-finals.

His two goals during the first leg in Paris have given Barcelona a clear advantage heading into tomorrow’s return leg against Paris Saint-Germain at the Camp Nou.

When asked his thoughts on Suarez’s contribution to date, manager Luis Enrique marveled at the striker’s talent and ability to adapt to the club in such a short period of time.

“Suarez gave us a few doubts at first,” Enrique admitted. “We can only speak in the highest terms of his thought process and willingness from the word ‘go’.

“The uncertainty you have when you sign a player is just that, even if he is world class. You have to get used to a team, your teammates, the city. It can be difficult.

“His adaptation has been meteoric.”

Suarez himself says he feels comfortable at Barcelona and has dreamed of winning a Champions League title for the Catalan club. But the striker insisted his side will stay focused on the task at hand while attempting to close out the tie against the French champions.

“We know that this tie is not yet decided despite the result in the first leg, especially against a complicated opponent such as PSG,” Suarez added.

“I don’t know if this is my best period [at Barcelona], but I do feel I am helping the team out which makes me happy and satisfied.

“The goals aren’t important. The important thing is that the team moves forward and has a good season.

“I always wanted to play in this competition with Barcelona. I hope we carry on this way so we are in the position to win the competition, which is what I always wanted.”
