Barcelona manager Luis Enrique is calling on supporters at the Camp Nou to spur his side past fourth place Valencia on Saturday.

La Blaugrana hold a two-point lead over second place Real Madrid heading into this weekend’s fixtures, and could be displaced as league leaders should they drop points at home to Los Che.

During his pre-match press conference, Enrique stressed that tomorrow’s visit from Valencia is “one of seven key games” remaining for his club. Barcelona are preparing to face a Valencia side which they narrowly escaped with a victory against earlier this season [it took a Sergio Busquets goal in the 94th minute to decide the contest], and a team which has already defeated both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

“The complications which Valencia give us tomorrow – just like they did when we met at their stadium, means that I have to ask our fans for extra support,” Enrique said.

“I have never had to do this before but I want to see the team flying on Saturday, and the whole stadium erupting, because we will need it.

“We are much stronger when we have our fans behind us; we hope they make their presence felt and they spur us on to take all three points.

“I hope Camp Nou trembles with passion tomorrow whenever the team is lacking clarity, I hope they help us. Now more than ever it’s important that they get behind us.”

Enrique was then asked if Valencia will benefit from not having any European responsibilities during the week.

“Every team wants to be playing a match every three days,” the Barcelona boss concluded. “Now we are going into the stage where we have less time to recover but that’s the case for other teams as well.

“It’s difficult. I’m knackered and I don’t even play. But it’s stimulating at the same time.

“That’s why from the moment the players begin the pre-match warm-ups we need 100,000 culés singing their hearts out.

“This is key for us.”
