Atletico Madrid striker Mario Mandzukic has been cleared to face Real Madrid on Tuesday.

Mandzukic had been suffering from a long-standing problem with his right ankle, and the injury was aggravated during Atletico’s 2-0 win over Cordoba on April 4th.

The 28-year-old forward was cleared by the club’s medical staff and took part in training on Sunday.

Despite sitting out the last two matches, Mandzukic is the Atletico’s leading scorer in all competitions with 20 goals. He is also the team’s top scorer in the Champions League with five goals in eight appearances.

During his pre-match press conference, Diego Simeone confirmed Mandzukic and goalkeeper Jan Oblak will start for Atletico Madrid in Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid.

Atletico will look to extend their unbeaten run against their city rivals to seven matches, after already having defeated Real Madrid four times while drawing twice in their previous six matches this season.

Mandzukic has scored twice against Real Madrid, with his first goal being the decisive goal in Atletico’s Spanish Super Cup victory over their city rivals in August.

The Croatian also put the final touches on his side’s 4-0 league win at the Vicente Calderon in February

Programming note: Atletico Madrid vs. Real Madrid will be shown LIVE on Tuesday at 2:45pm EST on FOX Sports 1 and FoxSoccer2Go.
