Bayern Munich goalkeeper Pepe Reina has urged David de Gea to ignore interest from Real Madrid and remain at Manchester United.

De Gea has been the subject of transfer speculation with his contract set to expire in June 2016.

During an interview with talkSPORT, Reina shared his thoughts on the transfer speculation surrounding De Gea, while calling the Spaniard “one of the best goalkeepers in Europe”.

“He is one of the top goalkeepers in Europe and this year he has been superb,” Reina told talkSPORT.

“Maybe Real Madrid are looking for a goalkeeper and De Gea is one of the names suggested, but I think he should be happy enough to play for Man United.”

Over the past few months rumors have continued to link De Gea with a move to Real Madrid at some point in the near future. Despite the fact the La Liga club already boasts two top class goalkeepers in their squad (Iker Casillas and Keylor Navas) and have been in constant talks with River Plate regarding Argentina U-20 shot-stopper Augusto Batalla.

Last month, De Gea’s agent Jorge Mendes said he believed the player would stay in Manchester, but since no agreement has been reached between the goalkeeper and the club rumors refuse to die regarding his departure.

United are reportedly willing to make De Gea the highest paid goalkeeper in the world on £200,000-a-week.

Recently, sources close to the player indicated he is in no rush to return to Spain.

De Gea arrived in England after beginning his career with Atletico Madrid.

Over the past two seasons, the 24-year-old has been United’s most valuable player and has arguably been the best goalkeeper in the world. This coming after the former Atletico Madrid product initially struggled to adapt to the physical nature of the Premier League and was roundly slammed by critics.
