Barcelona defender Gerard Pique believes Sunday’s El Clasico could be the title deciding moment in La Liga with ten games left in the campaign.

La Blaugrana currently hold a one point advantage over their Madrid rivals, and a victory this weekend would increase their gap to four points.

“The ‘Clasico’ is a very important step forward,” Pique told the club’s official website. “There are ten games left, we are very close to each other and winning three points with them dropping three can give you enough distance to go on and win the league. We are all focused on this game, on winning it.

“Up in attack we have three players that are on form and defensively the team are also competing very well.

“We go into this ‘Clasico’ totally revved-up and excited at the possibility of winning three points. You are stronger and feel more confident when you come of the good run that we have.”

Barcelona have been in scintillating form since the start of the New Year, winning seventeen of eighteen matches in all competitions, while outscoring their opponents, 59-13.

Lionel Messi has been playing some of the best football of his career, and fellow striker Luis Suarez has recently regained his scoring touch after playing more of a providing role for much of the early season.

With that said, Pique knows the quality of his opponents on Sunday and is leery of the threat posed by Real Madrid’s front three of Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Real Madrid are another great team, with fantastic players and that is what makes it so special,” Pique added.

“Cristiano Ronaldo and Bale are very powerful, very fast and very dangerous on a one-on-one. They can hurt you. Benzema gives them balance, he drops back more to collect the ball with his back to goal and then brings it up to the area. Stopping him doing so is vital.”
