Barcelona manager Luis Enrique is leery of the threat poised by the reigning Premier League champions Manchester City and warned his side needs to change its mentality in the wake of their weekend defeat to Malaga, speaking ahead of today’s Champions League Round of 16 first leg against Manchester City,

“Things didn’t come off against Malaga,” Enrique said during his pre-match press conference. “Now we have to think about City. Both teams have the same aim.”

“The players are aware that there’s a long way to go. We lost one match, it wasn’t a catastrophe. Right now, I’d happily take eleven straight wins and one defeat.”

“At this club we have to win every competition we enter. Any slip up, no matter which game it is in, is a problem.”

“City have the ability to take the ball from us and keep it, they have the quality to do that. It’ll be an interesting match because both clubs have the same aim, which is to win our domestic league and the Champions League.”

“Coming to England is always a source of motivation. We’re at the business end of the competitions and must take the match very seriously.”

While singling out Sergio Aguero for his world class quality, Enrique went on to say that Manuel Pellegrini has many threats at his disposal.

“If we analyze the City squad, we can see that Aguero is one of their special players,” Enrique added. “However, anyone who plays for them will be a quality player.”

Barcelona knocked Manchester City out of the competition at the same point last season (winning 2-0 in England and 4-1 on aggregate). When asked if those results made his side favorites to advance to the quarter-final of the competition, Enrique was reluctant to make any predictions.

“I don’t think there is a favorite,” Enrique concluded. “It’s dangerous to speak of favorites in the Champions League – you have to demonstrate yourself on the field.”
