Atletico Madrid are reportedly monitoring Fenerbahce midfielder Alper Potuk, with the club seeing the young Turk as a potential replacement for Arda Turan.

This week, Turan’s representative Ahmet Bulut informed the media that his client would leave the club at the end of the season for one of Europe’s top teams.

Following that news, we’ve learned that Atletico are actively looking for replacements and have increased their interest in Fenerbahce’s Alper Potuk. The La Liga club are keen to expand their Turkish connections and are currently monitoring a handful of Super Lig players.

According to the Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Atletico officials have scouted the 23-year-old Turkey international for quite some time. It’s understood that the reigning Spanish champions rate the versatile Turkish midfielder highly and have already had a bid of 5 million euros (£3.8 million) rejected by Fenerbahce.

Potuk’s senior career began in 2009 with Eskisehirspor (ES-ES), after joining the Super Lig club from his youth side, Ciftelerspor. He played four seasons for ES-ES, making 106 appearances and scoring 5 goals.

He joined Fenerbahce in May 2013, and helped the club win the Turkish Super Cup and a Super Lig title last season. Potuk has made 38 appearances for the Canaries, scoring twice.

Potuk was also called up to the Turkish national team for their World Cup qualifiers prior to last summer’s tournament in Brazil.
