Wolfsburg are on the verge of completing a deal for Chelsea forward Andre Schurrle. Once the German international’s return to the Bundesliga is completed, the London club will officially announce the transfer acquisition of Juan Cuadrado from Fiorentina.

It was reported earlier today that Fiorentina had reached an agreement with Chelsea for the Colombian winger after the Blues satisfied the player’s £27 million release clause – part of the Cuadrado agreement will see Chelsea winger Mohamed Salah sent to the Serie A club on-loan for the remainder of the season, with the Premier League side paying his wages.

All that was necessary for the deal to be finalized was for the English club to offload some salary from its squad. Schurrle’s move to Germany (reported to be around £24 million) would in essence pay for the arrival of Cuadrado from Fiorentina.

Schurrle reportedly asked Chelsea to lower their initial £27 million asking price for him in an attempt to expedite his return to the German league – the 24-year-old began his career with 1. FSV Mainz 05 and later played for Bayer Leverkusen.

The German international arrived at Stamford Bridge in August 2013 and has made 44 appearances during his one-and-a-half seasons in London. Schurrle has seen his playing time drastically cut this season. The German has featuring only 14 times for manager Jose Mourinho’s side during the 2014-15 campaign.

With just over four days remaining until the transfer window closes, Mourinho has given the green light on the deals and official announcements from Chelsea can be expected in the next 24-48 hours.
