Crystal Palace have completed the signings of QPR midfielder Jordon Mutch and former Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi.

Mutch has penned a four-and-a-half year contract with the Eagles after spending just 25 weeks at Loftus Road, while Ameobi was a free agent after leaving Turkish side Gaziantep in December.

The 33-year-old Nigeria international has signed a short-term deal until the end of the season.

Ameobi is likely to need time to regain fitness after an unsuccessful stint in Turkey but Pardew said Mutch is ready to play and could make his debut against Everton on Saturday.

“Jordon’s a player that caught my eye against my Newcastle side and he’s a young player with potential,” Pardew said.

“It hasn’t quite worked out for him at QPR so we’ve given him the opportunity to come and play here.

“He’s got talent, he can score goals and in our environment hopefully he’ll have more success than he did at QPR.

“You need to score goals from all areas of the pitch in the Premier League and that’s an area where we can improve.”

QPR were reportedly keen to take Palace striker Fraizer Campbell to Loftus Road as part of the Mutch transfer but Pardew insisted “that was never an option”.

Ameobi’s arrival means the Eagles manager now has seven first-team strikers at his disposal.

“Shola will bring a wealth of experience to a young group of strikers,” Pardew said.

“He’s played at the top level more or less all his life and that experience will be important in this run-in.

“I’m really pleased to have him, not just as a player but as a character and a person at the training ground.”

Palace also expect to sign Lille full-back Pape Souare before the end of the week.

Souare is due to have a medical on Thursday after returning from the African Nations Cup following Senegal’s elimination in the group stages.

“The process is pretty far down the line,” Pardew said.

“He’s traveling back, will come straight for a medical and then if he passes that, he looks to be signing as well.”

Pardew added: “That will be it if those three players are concluded.

“Deadline day is one of those days where you look across the board and there might be a young player who is attractive to us but we have a big squad now and a squad we hope can carry us forward.”

Pardew also said he was “in the dark” over a potential permanent deal to re-sign Manchester United forward Wilfried Zaha.

Zaha has made 18 appearances for the Eagles since joining the club on loan at the start of the season.
