Borussia Dortmund captain Mats Hummels has addressed the latest speculation in the media linking him with a January move to Manchester United.

The 26-year-old defender has been a well-reported target of manager Louis van Gaal, with the latest stories theorizing that United are preparing a £35 million bid for the German international’s services.

With BVB struggling mightily in the Bundesliga, and Hummels battling injuries and poor form over the first half of the German campaign, it has been suggested by some media outlets that the defender might be open to a new challenge in England.

During an interview with Sky Deutschland, Hummels expressed that he is content with his current situation at Dortmund and has turned numerous offers to leave the German club in the past. While professing that loyalty is a trait he takes great pride in, the defender also stated that he would continue to remain quiet about any potential transfer moves rather than have his words come back to haunt him should the situation at Dortmund change in the future.

“I’m not really known as someone who travels,” Hummels told Sky Deutschland. “I’ve only been with two clubs in 26 years, so loyalty is important to me.”

“The only thing I’m concerned with right now is to play better than in the first half of the season. I was not satisfied with myself at all, as you can imagine.”

When asked about interest from other clubs, the German international responded: “I have had offers from different clubs, ever since I’ve been with Dortmund, but I have always decided not to leave.”

“I think I’ve made some good decisions and I want to make those in the future as well. I’ve never said I want to stay until 2024 or 2030, or whenever, but I have stayed until today.”

“I will stick to my way of not saying anything and maybe leave someday, instead of saying ‘I will stay forever’ and then leave all of a sudden.”

In all likelihood, Hummels will remain at Dortmund for the next six months in order to help his club battle its way back up the Bundesliga table – BVB have only accumulated 15 points from seventeen matches and are just a single point away from the bottom of the standings.

But Jurgen Klopp’s side have progressed to the Champions League Round of 32 as Group D winners over Arsenal.
