The Times newspaper in England suggested on Thursday that Spurs’ Togolese striker Emmanuel Adebayor could be heading to MLS after been frozen out of the team by the emergence of Harry Kane this season.

The 30-year-old has not made a first team appearance in over two months after heavily criticizing the Tottenham fans after their 2-1 defeat to Stoke City on November 9.

The former Arsenal forward, who only just returned to the club in the December after an ‘indefinite compassionate leave’ that saw him spend some weeks with his family in Togo, has now been deemed surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane and could be offloaded before the end of the January transfer window.

Although the striker’s contract expires at the end of the season, Spurs are desperate to get rid of him quicker to free up their wage bill as he is believed to earn in excess of £100,000 per week.

Where could he end up?

Toronto FC has been touted as a possible destination for the Togolese especially as Jermaine Defoe is expected to return to England this month, while New York Red Bulls are also in the market for a big name ‘designated player’ following Thierry Henry’s retirement.

New York City FC are also keen on securing the services of a big name player after failing to bring Frank Lampard back to the club in January while Seattle Sounders have also registered their interest according to reports.
