In excellent news for cord cutters, soccer fans will soon be able to get ESPN programming as a streaming service without needing a TV subscription.

For a subscription of $20 per month, customers will be able to receive ESPN, ESPN2, TBS, TNT, ABC Family, CNN and 25-35 other channels streamed to their computer, smartphone, tablet or set top box.

Currently, in order to watch soccer programming on ESPN or ESPN2 online, ESPN offers ESPN3.com and WatchESPN.com. However, soccer fans in the US have to use an authenticated login to prove that they have a TV subscription through their cable or satellite provider. On top of that, not all TV providers have an agreement in place to make ESPN3.com and WatchESPN.com available.

But with this new product from DISH entitled Sling TV, which will be launched in the near future, a TV subscription isn’t required to ESPN (or DISH). Instead, you could just sign up for the Sling TV service and get the programming you need. There will be no contract. Instead it’s a month-to-month agreement.

Despite the confusion about the name, Sling TV is not the same as Slingbox, which is a different product from a company that DISH acquired in 2007.

Many soccer fans in the United States have already been using a live (and on demand) streaming service from DISH named DishWorld, which features programming from beIN SPORTS, beIN SPORTS Espańol, One World Sports and more, bringing La Liga, Serie A, Ligue Un, Championship and other leagues to web and mobile devices nationwide.

A source has told us that the DishWorld service will be renamed in the near future, which makes us wonder if the new Sling TV service is actually DishWorld with a new name, skin and a host of new programming choices. If so, the quality and reliability of the DishWorld HD service is second to none, so if it does morph into Sling TV, it’s going to be an even better product than before.
